Unplayable The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Zelda logo and menus render, but title background and opening cinematic are black. Audio and subtitles work.
What happened
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Switch 2, version 2.0.0) launches and displays the Zelda logo and menu correctly, but the background remains entirely black.
Selecting New Game starts the opening cinematic. Audio plays and subtitles appear, but no cinematic imagery is displayed.
Reproduced on Lichii Builds 93 and 117 using Vulkan and OpenGL GLSL. Also tested updated Intel graphics drivers, direct monitor connection without the Plugable adapter, CPU video decoding, Handheld/Docked modes, disabled game patches, cleared shader caches, and disabled asynchronous GPU emulation, shader compilation, and presentation. All produced the same result.
The log confirms AV1 decoding initializes using libdav1d and reports decoded frames. It also reports an unimplemented Switch 2 display-service function (nx2:vi2, command 201). The relationship to the black screen is unconfirmed.
The log also indicates that system firmware and decryption keys are not installed.
How far they got
Reached the title screen and selected New Game. The opening cinematic starts with audio and subtitles, but the video remains black. Unable to verify normal gameplay.
Steps to reproduce
1. Launch Ocarina of Time (Switch 2, v2.0.0) in Lichii.
2. Observe the Zelda title screen. The logo and menu render, but the background is black.
3. Select New Game.
4. The opening cinematic starts with audio and subtitles, but no video appears.
5. The problem persists with Vulkan and OpenGL GLSL across Builds 93 and 117.
Settings
Resolution: Res1X
GPU accuracy: High
Asynchronous shaders: Unknown
VSync: FIFO (On). Tested both Docked and Handheld modes. CPU video decoding enabled. Disabled asynchronous GPU emulation, asynchronous shader compilation, and asynchronous presentation. Disabled built-in Max Resolution and Dynamic FPS patches. Cleared all pipeline caches. Tested Vulkan and OpenGL GLSL at 1× resolution with High/Accurate GPU mode. Also tested Builds 93 and 117, updated Intel graphics drivers, and disconnected the Plugable USB display adapter. No changes resolved the black screen.
