Runs The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
12-13 fps on M4 Pro, crash (DEVICE_LOST) with Accuracy Low, black screen in handheld
What happened
- Accuracy Low (Fast): the game crashed 3 times, always about 1 s after the first 3D texture is created (TIC 8x8x8, block_depth 3, 1 level, probably a color grading LUT). Log: "vkAcquireNextImageKHR returned VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST", then MasterSemaphore::Wait rethrows in the GPU thread and the app aborts (macOS crash report: GPUBack thread, RenderAppletCaptureLayer). Same timing in every log (32.3 s -> 33.6 s, 101.7 s -> 102.3 s, 165.7 s -> 166.3 s).
- MVK_CONFIG_RESUME_LOST_DEVICE=1 did not help.
- Accuracy High: the same 3D texture loads at 282 s and the game keeps running for over 10 minutes without a crash.
- Performance: 12-13 fps (about 70-80 ms frame time) in menus, intro and cutscenes. Same fps at 0.5x and 1x resolution, so it looks CPU-bound, not GPU-bound.
- Handheld mode: black screen, only UI and subtitles visible. Docked works.
How far they got
Played the intro and the first story cutscene (Link in the storm), about 10-15 minutes. Stable with Accuracy High, but only 12-13 fps the whole time.
Steps to reproduce
1. Set Accuracy to Low, docked mode.
2. Start the game and watch the intro.
3. Crash with VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST about 1 s after the first 8x8x8 3D texture is created.
4. With Accuracy High the same scene runs without a crash.
Settings
Resolution: Res1X
GPU accuracy: High
Asynchronous shaders: true
Docked mode, memory layout 12 GB, VSync FIFO, reactive flushing off, ASTC recompression BC3, CPU clock Normal. Handheld mode gave a black screen (UI and subtitles only). Accuracy Low/Fast crashed every time (VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST), High is stable.
